Summer in New York, especially in July, can get quite hot, but that doesn’t mean you should give up on nice outfits. Your clothes will also need to transition from lunch to sightseeing and a night out, so here are some wildcards to pack:
👚 Breathable base layers – items like short sleeves and shorts or skirts are the way to go. You can get good pieces from spots like Uniqlo on Fifth Avenue if you want to get them in town.
🧥 Lighter outer layers — the weather will get positively hot, so opt for layers you can fold and tuck away when not needed anymore.
🧤 Sunglasses, hair clips or ties, and a reusable water bottle are some of my summer survival items. We don’t wear them in a traditional sense, but they’re still a must.
👢 Waterproof shoes – Even if it doesn’t rain, there is nothing worse than stepping on a puddle and getting your socks wet.
🎒 Comfy backpacks or totes— There isn’t a day that I go out in NYC and regret bringing a bag. If you plan on walking, a backpack is the way to go!

Is New York City Safe to Travel To?
It is so safe for everyone, even for first-time visitors. I have walked these blocks at all times of the day and had no issues. But we should always take some precautions every time we go somewhere new.
The first safety precaution we need is research! Do that for the palace you will stay at and the area around it. Speaking of where you stay, some hotels let you book your tours or tickets through them since they are trusted providers. Avoiding isolated areas is a must since it can be dangerous for everyone. As for your fancy items, avoid using any when out daily. Save those for a special occasion!
Also, pay attention! Some places we visit might have local customs or dress codes that need to be respected. As a visitor, use means of transportation you can trust and never try to figure out the public transit at night.
Your last step for a safe trip is to stay in touch with your family and friends, no matter how far away they might be. Tell them where you’re going, your plans for the day, and what time you plan on being back at your accommodation for the night. Traveling to NYC will be perfect if you plan correctly.
