The month of August has the weather heading towards the change of seasons, so we get a warm beginning with a chillier end. NYC will always be welcoming, but maybe carry an outer layer with you just in case.
Our highest August daytime averages stay around 28°C (82°F), with a chance to rise in case of heat waves or fall a little in the later days. Nighttime averages hang around 20°C (68°F).
Temperatures around the Flatiron District will begin to ‘slow down’ much like the travel season, so enjoy!

Like I mentioned before, New York City weather in August marks a new change of seasons! Meaning we will have an increased chance of those traditional end-of-summer rain showers.
It takes something much bigger than a little rain to make this city stop. So always be ready to keep going by having a small umbrella or those waterproof windbreakers on hand.

The month of August has great weather, and one of the reasons why is that it doesn’t rain that much. It usually has an average amount of around 87mm (about 3 inches) of rain divided over twelve days.
It is a little less rain than what we have seen in the last couple of months, so we’re golden to live summer’s last weeks to the fullest! And if it rains? Well, we won’t even need to leave the Flatiron District to have a blast.

New York City in August is rarely rainy, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have plans for if that happens. Here is what we can do in the Flatiron District:
- 🖼️ Visit a Museum: While not everyone is a museum person, rainy days make for a perfect opportunity for us to visit new places. Flatiron District has the MoMath for family fun and the Museum of Sex for adults hoping to make some fun memories.
- ☕ Grab a Coffee at Devoción or a Matcha at Cha Cha Matcha: I know that rainy days aren’t always chilly, but they’re still perfect to try some delicious coffee. Devoción has many roasts to pick from, and Cha Cha Matcha has great drinks!
- 🍽️ Eataly Flatiron: Almost every New Yorker knows the name ‘Eataly’, but everyone loves the Flatiron District location when some rain falls. It is perfect for us to sample specialty ingredients, have snacks, or even a full meal without leaving the building.
- 🛍️ ABC Carpet & Home: One of my favorite ways to spend some time if I have nothing to do is heading to random decor stores for people watching. ABC Carpet & Home can be a great alternative to do that and get some decor ideas.
- 📚 Rizzoli Bookstore: I’ve said that the Flatiron District has plenty of things to do, and it has! My all-time favorite is going to Rizzoli Bookstore just to browse the many aisles of books and look for my next read.
We can have so much fun without leaving this district! NYC is a city that is ready to move its plans indoors in a moment, so there are plenty of things to do if you want to explore further into town.

New York City weather in August is a stage for some of the best sunsets I’ve ever seen. Enjoy them from picture-perfect spots high above the streets!
